Six new apprentices starts training at NKE AUSTRIA

. Janet Mo

Apprenticeship training enjoys the highest priority at NKE AUSTRIA, despite the current economic downturn.

This year, six young people from the region have started their vocational training at the bearing manufacturer in Steyr: Thomas Hornbachner, Christian Infanger and Tanja Lidlgruber will be trained as production technicians; Sandra Schafellner and Christina Michlmayer started their commercial apprenticeship, and Carina Herzog as information technology trainee. NKE is currently training 18 apprentices, composing 10 percent of the total workforce.

“We are glad that we could inspire so many young women to start a technical career,” says Harald Zerobin, NKE’s Technical Managing Director. With 37 percent women in the workforce, the bearing manufacturer lies far above the industry average, also on the management level: four of the nine department heads are female.

To ensure best possible training for apprentices especially in metal related jobs, an apprentice workshop was established in cooperation with Austrian vocational training institute BFI. In order to better equip the apprentices for the international market, NKE also provides English courses.

NKE produces standard and special bearings for all industrial applications. In addition to product development and application engineering, NKE provides a full range of technical services and training. NKE’s products are distributed through 15 international representative offices and more than 240 distribution outlets in 60 countries.
