Bearing manufacturer NKE Austria GmbH is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. Based in the Austrian city of Steyr, the company was founded in 1996 by Heimo Ebner and Harald Zerobin, both previously leading employees of former bearing manufacturer Steyr Wälzlager.
NKE AUSTRIA concluded the year 2005 with huge successes: a sales growth of 25.6%, a strengthened team, doubled production and warehouse areas, expansion to nine new markets such as India and Chile, and an extended product range.
NKE AUSTRIA was awarded the industry prize Pegasus on 16 June. The bearing manufacturer won the gold prize in the category “companies with 50 to 249 employees”. The Pegasus is the most influential industry prize in Upper Austria; it is awarded to the best companies in the province every year.
NKE AUSTRIA reported another outstanding year: Sales hit 43.3 million euro in 2008, up 87 percent over the previous year. The main areas of growth were wind energy, gearbox and agricultural machinery sectors.
In April 2021, bearing manufacturer NKE Austria GmbH was again honoured to receive the Austria Quality Seal. The accredited quality seal is awarded by the Austrian association for the promotion of quality (ÖQA) after successful quality inspections.
NKE Austria GmbH designs and manufactures bearings for wind turbine gearboxes and generators. The bearing solutions were presented at the WindEurope Annual Event in Bilbao, Spain, in April 2022.
After the Gleink Education Park had already started operations in autumn last year, it was officially opened on 13 March.

Fersa Bearings S.A. made official the purchase of 100 percent of the Austrian company NKE Austria GmbH on 19 October 2018, at a ceremony held in the city of Linz, Austria. The event was attended by Carlos Oehling, Chief Executive Officer of the Fersa Group, Thomas Witzler, Managing Director of NKE Austria, and the former partners and founders of NKE, Harald Zerobin and Heimo Ebner.
The Spanish multinational strengthens its global strategy by consolidating its position in India and takes a further step towards market leadership in powertrain components and intelligent mobility solutions while diversifying its product range to reach an estimated turnover of more than 200 million euros by 2023.
This year again, 4 apprentices are starting their vocational training at NKE AUSTRIA GmbH. The bearing manufacturer from Steyr thus has an apprentice quota of 10% measured against the 200 employees of the company and attaches great importance to high-quality professional training in the company.
Despite the recession, Steyr-based bearing manufacturer NKE Austria GmbH achieved positive annual results in 2009. With sales of 43.8 million euros, NKE’s turnover was up one percent over the record year 2008. Wind energy represented an important growth sector, and the biggest growth market was China.
Austrian bearing manufacturer NKE Austria GmbH has again passed the ISO audit in October 2012 and is now recertified to ISO 9001:2008 for Quality Management, ISO 14001:2004 for Environmental Management and OHSAS 18001 for Occupational Health and Safety. Certification and audits were performed by SGS (Société Générale de Surveillance), one of the world’s leading certification authorities.

NKE Austria GmbH has a new Sales Director: Joining the Austrian bearing manufacturer on 1 April 2018, Jesús Monforte, a qualified engineer and MBA, has extensive international experience in industrial product and market development.
NKE AUSTRIA GmbH appointed two authorised signatories (Prokuristen) for the company. Dipl.-Ing. Gunnar Simm is currently Head of Engineering, and Mag. Thomas Witzler, M.Sc. is Head of Human Resources for the Steyr-based bearing manufacturer.
Bearing manufacturer NKE Austria GmbH has received the "Great Place to Work" certificate. Businesses which take part in the certification process and meet the respective requirements are entitled to display the commendation "Certified by Great Place to Work" for a year. The process is based on a survey of all employees and is intended to reflect a good workplace culture.
Apprenticeship training is a top priority at NKE AUSTRIA. Due to the dynamic growth of the company on the one hand and the foreseeable shortage of skilled workers on the other hand, the management pays special attention to the issue of apprentices. The target was set that 10 percent of the workforce should be apprentices.
Bearing specialist NKE Austria GmbH has a new Managing Director: Matthias Ortner, previously the Deputy Managing Director, was appointed Managing Director of the Steyr-based bearing manufacturer with effect from 2022
Bearing manufacturer NKE Austria GmbH has again passed the ISO audit.
The bearing manufacturer NKE AUSTRIA GmbH completed and moved into its new headquarters in the industrial park Stadtgut Steyr in June 2009. More than fifteen million euro have been invested in the new works with a floor space of more than 10,000 square metres.
NKE AUSTRIA GmbH opens its first sales office in China. The objective of the representative office in Shanghai is to improve the service to OEM customers in important segments as well as to establish a nationwide distribution network. The office will be headed by Hansen Mao, who has many years of experience in the bearing industry.
NKE Austria GmbH has been awarded “Hidden Champion 3.0”. The ceremony took place at the Austrian Export Day of the Austrian Chamber of Commerce inVienna on June 24th 2014.
