Steyr-based bearing manufacturer NKE AUSTRIA GmbH achieved outstanding annual results in 2007. With sales of 23.1 million euro, NKE’s turnover was up 63 percent over the previous year. The main areas of growth were in the wind energy, gearbox and agricultural machinery sectors, with wind energy alone contributing orders worth several million euros.

At its head office in Steyr, NKE has created 30 new jobs in 2007, including three new managerial positions – for Procurement Logistics, Quality Management and Environmental Management as well as Project Management. The company now has 130 employees and plans to create another 30 positions per year over the next two years. NKE’s international sales network has also been extended, with two new representatives, one in the United Kingdom and one in Italy.

2007 also saw the introduction of a new ERP system, which has helped boost productivity and service efficiency. Investments were also made in Production and Quality Assurance, especially in relation to large size bearings with a diameter of up to two metres.

Bearing manufacturer NKE plans to extend its Steyr site from its existing floorspace of 4 600 square metres to 11 600 square metres, of which 8 200 square metres will be for production and warehousing. The cost of the expansion is an estimated ten million euros.

For 2008, NKE AUSTRIA aims to further extend its customer base and the global sales network, as well as increasing employee satisfaction.
